Now that the 'Big Blow of '17' has passed us here on the California coast, I found four large Eucalyptus trees down on my property. OK, so it's time to buy a wood chipper that could be run by a Kubota BX1860 (the tiny 18HP diesel). Was a bit tentative about ordering the Titan BX42, because of this small engine, but went ahead anyway. Assembly amounted to attaching the input/output chutes, and the PTO and that's it. No sweat!
I found the 1860 was able to operate this chipper just great, chipping material up to 2.5 - 3"dia (No, I didn't try running logs through it). I read in some reviews that said leaves can clog it. Yes, I did clog the output chute a couple of times before realizing I need to feed it a bit slower, and don't try to shove WET leaves thru. (The Eucalyptus has many small branches and LOTS of long slender leaves that carry a very aeromatic oil...this job will clear your sinuses!) If the machine does clog, it's a simple matter of removing one bolt to tilt open the housing where you have access to the cutters and output chute. Another No sweat job!
This Titan BX42 does exactly what I needed it to do and as advertised. That's the pleasant surprise. I also like that it's Made in America. Now, I just ordered the quick hitch attachments for my three-point-hitch. Good job, Palletforks folks. (Posted on 3/8/2017)

Unit was delivered in 9 days. Came in a metal pallet crate. Assembly was not difficult, attach in feed shoot (4 bolts) and discharge shoot (8 bolts). Assembly took maybe 45 minutes. The tabs that hold the in feed shoot on were a little too close together preventing one of the washers from being used to separate the hopper and the main frame of the unit. 2nd issue the mount tabs for the upper half of the fly wheel cover weren't perfectly aligned, this caused the top half to screw to one side once opened, loosen the bolts and the cover fits fine. I've put an hour or two on the chipper so far and it works great with dry brush. It is winter time in Massachusetts so there an no leaves on the trees. The unit clogged twice during operation this was caused by feeding a lot of small saplings in the hopper at once. I would recommend feeding them in along with a large branch. Ill update this as I use the chipper more.

Pros: good value for the money. works great on dry brush. "Free" angle iron from shipping crate.
Cons: Loose tolerances in the manufacturing process (Posted on 2/24/2017)

I've only used for a day and I think it is great. The unit didn't come with instructions or a manual. The manual would be useful for a parts list. (though it says not to operate without first reading the manual) I sheared off a PTO shaft bolt at the end of the day. (my fault) If someone isn't able to figure out how to put this together and/or operate it, they shouldn't own or operate a tractor. (they are either going to hurt themselves or someone around them) (Posted on 2/23/2017)

This Titan chipper replaced my fire roasted Gearmore chipper (live in SoCal wildfire area).
The Titan chipper was half the price of the Gearmore , but out preforms the old chipper on the feeding ( it is eating mostly fire roasted coastal oak and chaparral, very hard wood).
I am using this chipper on a Kubota 2370, which has less power than the old tractor (fire roasted).

PRO; price and performance

CON; no book and had to bang on stuff to get it to fit (Posted on 6/28/2016)

A bit skeptical to put this on my Kubota B7300 due to only having 16 HP (12 HP at PTO). However, running at 540 pto rpm and 2300 rpm engine speed, this unit chewed up oak and hickory without issue. As long I stayed with 3" or less limbs, I had no problem. It worked fine with 4" as long as I fed it slowly but I could feel the engine drag. Have to say that I'm very impressed with the performance even with my smaller tractor. (Posted on 6/26/2016)

I assembled the chipper today and found a well built machine. The only complaint I have is the bolts for the discharge chute need to have the nuts tightened on them a little because one of them fell out during shipping so I had to replace it. Other than that the assembly was quick and the chipper works very well. (Posted on 5/16/2016)

Overall I'm very happy with this chipper, I noticed that none of the grease zerks had been used, and the main bearings and u-joints are shipped with assembly lube only The main bearings took about 14 pumps of grease to fill them. That could have turned into a serious issue very quickly if I hadn't noticed. The latch that holds the hopper up to the blade housing didn't align properly. That was minor, as a couple whacks with a hammer was all it took to fix it. (Posted on 5/9/2016)

Works great for larger branches and old dried limbs. Clogs up when feeding leafy green small branches. Very easy to open and clean-out. East to get on and off my tractor. It is a big chipper for a small price. (Posted on 5/9/2016)

This chipper is a great deal. I am using it with a John Deere 1023e, 23 hp. Have owned the chipper for about 6 months and been using it to help clear land for a future building site. This looks identical to a certain big name brand for half the price. I have no complaints about quality. Sturdy built, and is a simple machine so not much can go wrong. I have chipped mostly white oak. Had to replace the shear bolt a couple of times. It is mild steel metric bolt. The second time I replaced it with the equivalent of a grade 5 in the metric, and havent sheared the bolt since. I think my pto is powered by hydraulic so not much danger of hurting the drivetrain anyway. (Posted on 4/25/2016)

I bought the BX42 last month and have used it about 10 hours and have created 3 piles of chips 5ft. tall. I use it with my Kabota BX2730, 23HP tractor. The BX42 works great, I only chip small Pine Trees up to 3-1/2 inches. no preping the trees just cut them down and chip, some are 20ft long and every thing chips fine. some times the chipper clogs with the tree top mass of pine needles or very dead wood. I had to trim the PTO shaft 1 inch before use but every thing worked out great. THE CHIPPER IS A GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE, (Posted on 3/28/2016)

Question: Can I use these chippers with my 75hp John Deere? I dont really see an issue with having to much HP?

Answer:

From Joris at Nov 23, 2016

Question: Is the BX 42 chipper assembled or is their some assembly

Answer: There is minor assembly involved with the BX42 wood chipper. You will need to attach the shoot, the 3 point pins, as well as the PTO shaft.

Thank you,

From Dewey at Nov 19, 2016

Question: What is the rotation of the unit clockwise or counterclockwise? Would be attaching to Cub lowboy

Answer: The rotation depends on your PTO. The Cub Lowboy has a counterclockwise rotation, which would make the BX42 rotate counterclockwise. I hope this helps!

Thank you,
Titan Support.

Question: Hello,

Will the hopper drop to the ground to collect leaves?

Answer: The hopper on the BX42 will be fixed and cannot be dropped to the ground to collect leaves.

Question: I have new bx42s chipper on 3-4" pine trees (delimed) the shear pin bolt breaks. used 3 std bolts after factory one and couldn't finish 5 pieces. Ideas to correct??? use grade 5 bolts??? where can I print owners manual?

Answer: We apologize but we don't have any ideas on correction and there is no owner's manual.

From Susan at Sep 7, 2016

Question: We have a Kubota L1501. Will it work with this chipper?

Answer: This unit is designed to be used on a tractor with up to 40HP, according to your tractor's specifications, you have 15HP. It integrates with the tractor's 3 point hitch and PTO. Please take into account this unit weighs 431#, I could not find your lifting capacity.

From Mike Keil at Aug 21, 2016

Question: Hi I have a Kubota BX22 rated for 16.7hp at the PTO, and I see minimum ratings of 18-20hp for the BX42chipper; though since I am not planning on chipping logs greater than 3" would the BX42 work on my tractor for logs less than 3"?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer: The BX42 should work just fine. It chips a 4'' diameter timber.

Monique

From Boutros at Jul 29, 2016

Question: Will this work on a 95 Hp tractor?

Answer: Thank you for your email! As long as you have a 3 point hitch and PTO it will work great! Let us know if you have anymore questions. Have a great day.
